Introduction

The addition is one of the important math concepts that will travel with us throughout our life. It is more important for children to understand the basics early for better skill development later in their lives. Early learning is entirely depending on the child’s interest and excitement. So, always observe the child and go with their ideas. It helps them to learn quickly and more stress-free for us as well. We did loads of hands-on activities and worksheets to have a strong foundation. Are you interested in knowing them? Please scroll through.

Prerequisites To understand the Addition concept for kids

In addition, it is one of the advanced concepts for preschool kids, and they need to know few basics before jumping into the addition. Please make sure the child has strong knowledge of these concepts and then move towards addition. Addition can wait until the child is well-versed in basics.

I have a separate post for all of the below-mentioned Math concepts for kids. Please click on the topics to access them.

  1. Number recognition (min. 1 to 20) as we are going to start with single-digit addition
  2. Counting ( 1 to 20)
  3. Number sense– Able to understand number to count and vice versa
  4. Identify smaller and bigger numbers
  5. Understand the concept of subitizing
  6. Know before and after numbers.

Let the child get proper knowledge of basic math concepts before moving into addition.

Hands-on addition activities for preschool kids

Whatever the hand’s touch, mind reminds. This is one of the primary mantras for any early learning. Whenever the child leans a new concept by experiencing a sensory object, it stays in their mind forever. This is applicable for learning addition as well. Hands-on learning helps the child to understand a new concept very well. My preschooler did more hands-on activities for addition and loads of additional DIY worksheets. Please move down to check them.
